Channelling darkness into beauty is no mean feat. Spacelab has managed that with new release Dead Dimension. A companion piece to the previous EP Knell, it was created during a time of personal pain and unrest, and the deeply felt emotions are palpable throughout its 15 short tracks.

Responding to his situation, he channelled his anger, resentment, anxiety and paranoia into creating off-the-cuff, instinctive music, working in real-time to capture a specific mood and moment in time.

The ghostly voices of Inner Flight and the scattered sonics of Twisted Shadow speak to a chaotic range of emotions. The still drone of Cloudless Blue evokes apathy and ambivalence, while the wavering melodies of Ectopic and Metro Hieroglyphics are pure heartbreak.

Bringing together aspects of ambient, drone and electronica, Spacelab has created an album that is created from heartbreak and can exhibit all of its many characteristics, while offering a strange hopefulness that greatness can be mined from such depths.
